Mission and Objectives

Every year, more than 500,000 people in the EU and the US are affected by circulatory shock. Despite advances in critical care, this life-threatening condition remains difficult to treat, with a 30-day mortality rate of up to 50% and therapy options still largely limited to supportive care. CURE-SHOCK aims to address this unmet medical need by exploring a new treatment approach centred on targeting Dipeptidyl Peptidase 3 (DPP3), a digestive enzyme identified as a key driver of circulatory failure.

The project’s work is guided by three main objectives:

  1. Evaluating a targeted treatment for shock: CURE-SHOCK is assessing the safety and efficacy of the novel anti-DPP3 antibody Invobenitug as a potential first-in-class therapy for septic, burn, and traumatic shock in a multicentre clinical trial.
  2. Reducing mortality and morbidity: By introducing this new approach, the project aims to support better recovery and survival, reduce the need for cardiovascular organ support and shorten hospital stays for patients affected by severe shock.
  3. Advancing personalised treatment: CURE-SHOCK will investigate DPP3 as a diagnostic and prognostic marker to better understand treatment response and identify the patients most likely to benefit from treatment with Invobenitug.

With CURE-SHOCK, we are advancing an innovative biotechnology towards real-world clinical application, paving the way for a new standard of care for patients with shock. In recognition of this potential, CURE-SHOCK was also awarded the STEP Seal, underscoring its strategic relevance for Europe’s resilience and preparedness in critical care.
